TOSlink Optical Audio
Fiber optic cables are commonly being used for a wide variety of high speed data transfer applications. The primary benefit of fiber optics, as opposed to the traditional use of copper, is it's very low loss over extremely long distances, often many hundreds of kilometers.
In home audio/cinema, the most common type of connector is called TOSlink. This connector is the square type as utilized on AV amps, DVD players etc. This connector was developed by Toshiba about 25 years ago, during the original development of the use of digital audio bitstreams. Our TOSlink cables from 1-3m are also supplied with a 3.5mm adaptor for the less common optical connection sometimes used in items such as some portable media players.
